PI introduces InnoMux-2 high precision multi-output power solution

     PI announces the launch of the InnoMux-2™ series of single-stage, independently regulated multioutput offline power ics. The InnoMux-2 IC integrates AC-DC and post-stage DC-DC conversion stages into a single chip to provide up to three independent regulated outputs, making it ideal for white goods, industrial systems, displays, and other applications where multiple supply voltages are required. Compared to the traditional two-stage architecture, there is no need to use a separate DC-DC conversion stage, which can reduce the number of components, reduce the PCB size, and achieve an efficiency increase of up to 10%. In addition, the new IC features 750V PowiGaN™ gallium nitride switching tubes, zero-voltage switching (no active clamping required) and synchronous rectification technology, which contribute to further efficiency improvements.

     Roland Saint-Pierre, Vice President of Product Development at Power Integrations, said:"Most modern electronic systems rely on multiple internal voltages to run various functions, such as computing, communication, and executive functions (usually heating, light, sound, or some kind of motor function). But the losses at each conversion stage add up, reducing the performance of the entire system and generating heat. The InnoMux-2 IC easily overcomes this challenge because it uses a single-stage architecture that provides up to three independent regulated outputs or two constant voltage outputs and one constant current output, enabling a compact and efficient power subsystem with fewer components."

     The InnoMux-2 IC provides up to 90W of output power and achieves an adjustment accuracy of better than ±3% over the entire input voltage, load range, temperature, and load current jump. The overall efficiency of the power supply system (from AC to the low voltage DC output segment of the regulated voltage) can exceed 90%; The advanced InnoMux-2 controller also manages power output at light loads, eliminating the need for dummy load resistors and reducing no-load power consumption to less than 30mW. The European Electrical Products (EuP) Directive sets a standby power standard of less than 300mW, which provides more available standby power for certain application scenarios where necessary functions need to be performed.

     The InnoMux-2 device is available in Power Integrations' highly heat-dissipating InSOP™24 and InSOP™28 packages and can be cooled via PCB, so no heat sink is required. Device options include dual and triple output constant voltage (CV) models; Alternatively, one of the outputs can be dedicated to providing a constant current (CC) drive, suitable for powering an LED backlight in a display or providing fast charging for a built-in battery. Typical applications include televisions, displays, appliances, networking equipment, smart home and building automation, LED emergency lighting, and industrial power supplies.
