PI introduces SCALE-2 plug and play gate drivers for rail transit applications

Power Integrations, a well-known company in the field of gate driver technology for mid and high voltage inverter applications, announced the launch of a new SCALE 2 gate driver supporting 130x140mm single channel IGBT High power (IHM) module for a wide range of rail transit and other long-term applications. The new SCALE-2 plug and play gate driver includes 1SP0630V2M1R main driver, 1SP0635D2S1R peripheral driver, and ISO6125R-33 power supply, which simplifies system development and installation. It also greatly improves electrical and mechanical design simplicity and flexibility in high-power applications where multiple modules are required in parallel.

The compact SCALE-2 gate driver matches the size of the smaller IHM single-channel IGBT module, providing output current from 1200A to 1400A and IGBT voltage withstand of 3300V. The 1SP063xxxx1R gate driver is available in IHM modules from all major manufacturers, including Infineon, Mitsubishi, Hitachi and ABB. Power Integrations' SCALE-2 technology leverages ASIC chipsets to reduce component count and size while improving performance, scalability, and reliability. The SCALE-2 gate driver enables designers to optimize dynamic switching performance, improve overall accuracy and enhance functionality, and its integrated advanced active clamp circuit protects IGBTs.

1SP063xxxx1R gate drivers comply with IEC 61373 shock and vibration resistance standards and IEC 60068-2-xx environmental requirements, and also comply with EN50121-3-2 and IEC6100-4-x EMC standards. With the standard tri-paint process, the new gate drivers can also be burn-in tested on request to improve reliability. The connector has been modified to improve interconnect security and quickly loosen without tools. Fiber optic interface is also available.
