PI introduces a step-down switch IC that conforms to AEC-Q101 standard and has 850mA output current

     Power Integrations announced that its LinkSwitch TN2Q automotive switch IC product series has added a new member of the high current device, which can provide an output current of up to 850mA without the need for a metal heat sink. This highly integrated IC supports a wide input voltage of 30 to 550VDC, enabling electronic devices in electric vehicle applications to start and operate normally below the required safe ultra-low voltage (SELV) threshold.

     Edward Ong, Senior Product Marketing Manager of Power Integrations, said: "As the electronic devices in electric vehicles become more and more complex, automobile manufacturers need higher power supply current to drive them. Compared with other devices in the LinkSwitch TN2Q product series, the 850mA rating of this new IC means that the available output current has increased by 230%. LinkSwitch TN2Q IC uses SMD packaging, with internal integrated control, driver, protection circuit and 750V power MOSFET, which can greatly reduce the number of components."

     LinkSwitch TN2Q IC has passed AEC-Q100 certification and supports buck, buck boost and non isolated flyback converter topologies. Each device integrates a 750V power MOSFET, oscillator, switch control, a high-voltage switching current source for self power supply to the IC, frequency modulation, fast (cycle by cycle) current detection and current limiting, hysteresis thermal shutdown and output overvoltage protection circuit on a single IC.

     The LinkSwitch TN2Q IC consumes very little current in standby mode, so the power supply design can easily meet the no-load input of<50mW when 400VDC is input. The perfect protection function can realize safe and reliable power supply, including input and output overvoltage protection, device over temperature protection, voltage loss protection and power output overload or short circuit fault protection.
