PI introduces more powerful LinkSwitch AC-DC converter

     Power Integrations, a well-known company in the field of energy-efficient power conversion for high voltage integrated circuits, announced the addition of its highly acclaimed LinkSwitch™-TN2 AC-DC converter product line. The new LNK3207 IC increases the available output current from 360mA to 575mA while reducing the BOM number, making it ideal for higher power off-line buck converter designs for home appliances and industrial applications.

     Silvestro Fimiani, Product Promotion Manager at Power Integrations, said: "These new LinkSwite-TN2 ics are fully pin-compatible with previous generations, making it easy for customers to upgrade their existing designs to greater power output. A large current buck converter can be implemented using a minimum number of off-the-shelf commercially available components; It saves at least one diode compared to the old solution."

     The LNK3207 AC-DC converter IC is capable of increasing the maximum output current by 60% while enabling power efficiency of more than 80% and no-load power consumption of less than 30mW. Each LinkSwitch-TN2 IC incorporates a 725V power MOSFET, oscillator, ON/OFF control for extremely light-load efficiency, self-powered high-voltage switching current source, frequency modulation, fast (cycle by cycle) current limiting, hysteretic thermal shutdown, and output and input overvoltage protection circuits.

     The new LinkSwitch-TN2 IC is primarily aimed at mass appliances such as washers, dryers and coffee machines, which will benefit from their simple design. They are also suitable for very low-power sensor-based devices such as home security cameras and smart thermostats, as well as meters and iot devices. The device is available in three packages, namely PDIP-8C, SMD-8C and SO-8C, allowing for more flexible design. The SMD-8C package is ideal for applications in high-temperature environments (85/105°C).
