PREMO introduces quasi-resonant flyback transformers designed for in-car chargers

     Flyback transformers are the most common choice for the most cost-effective, efficient isolated power converters, ranging in power from one to tens of watts. The new FLYT-004 and FLYT-005 transformers are suitable for on-board EV/PHV AC/DC battery chargers with a quasi-resonant flyback mode with a switching frequency of 50Khz-300khz and a maximum duty cycle of 85%. Flyback transformers can achieve high circuit isolation, multiple outputs and provide positive or negative output voltages.

     Primary and secondary winding isolation is a key feature of this product. The transformer is designed to withstand the high voltage spike generated during switching. In addition, it provides sufficient isolation to meet safety requirements (up to 3kV between windings for enhanced isolation levels).

     The FLYT-004 product has an inductance value of 17.5 µH and a power of 10 W. The FLYT-005 product has an inductance of 15 µH and a similar power. Both are suitable for SMT soldering to PCB (printed circuit board). The specific SMD custom spool design guarantees mechanical performance and reliability, and the final size is related to its nominal power.

     OBC (car charger) is generally integrated with the car's power system, requiring the use of transformers to convert the AC power transmitted by external charging stations or home charging devices into the DC power required for car battery charging. The power control unit requires flyback transformers to provide several different low voltages.

     PREMO has developed a fully automated manufacturing process for the production of flyback transformers. At present, the Vietnamese factory has fully automated production with co-robots provided by Plamer RoboticsTM. A high level of automation, coupled with an exceptional level of quality, can meet a large number of demands for electric and hybrid vehicles.
