Pickering introduces the first micro-SIP reed relay with 5kV isolation capability

     Pickering Electronics offers a series of single-advance 104 reed relays. Previously, a larger non-SIP (single-in-line package) relay was required to achieve a 5kV isolation rating. Even if there is enough clearance space between adjacent components, the PCB area occupied by four new 104 5D devices is only equivalent to that of a larger comparable product.

     Kevin Mallett, technical specialist at Pickering Electronics, commented: "This is the first micro-SIP reed relay with isolation voltages up to 5kV and switching voltages up to 1.5kV, so it is particularly advantageous in situations where a compact design is required, as these devices can be stacked with only 6.35 mm per unit length." Despite its small size, the relays maintain reliable performance, ensuring that high-voltage switching or control operations can be performed efficiently and safely."

     The 104 series reed relays are ideal for mixed-signal semiconductor testers, cable testing, photovoltaic efficiency monitoring, electric vehicle and charging pile testing, mining gas analysis, medical electronics, in-line test equipment, high voltage instrumentation, and more. The 5kV element uses type 1 A (SPST N.O) and 5, 12 or 24V coils with optional internal diode protection.

     If a larger operating temperature range is required, the 104HT is designed to operate from -40 °C to +125 °C, and custom versions up to +150 °C are also available. The 104 5kV version fills a gap in Pickering's expanding range of high-voltage relays, covering 1KV-15kV.
