Power Integrations Introduces Industry's First Automotive-Grade High-Voltage Switch IC with Internally Integrated 1700V SiC MOSFET

     Power Integrations, a well-known company deeply engaged in the field of high-voltage integrated circuit high-efficiency power conversion, has released two new devices, adding two AEC-Q100-compliant ICs with a rated voltage of 1700V to the InnoSwitch3-AQ product family. These new devices are the industry's first automotive-grade switching power supply ICs to use silicon carbide (SiC) primary switching MOSFETs. The new ICs can deliver up to 70W of output power and are primarily used in 600V and 800V pure battery and fuel cell passenger vehicles, as well as electric buses, trucks and various industrial power applications.

     Highly integrated InnoSwitch ICs can reduce the component count of a power supply by up to 50%, saving significant board space, enhancing system reliability and alleviating component procurement challenges. The award-winning InnoSwitch product family, now available in cost-effective silicon, high-efficiency gallium nitride (GaN) and high-voltage SiC transistors, helps designers optimize across a broad range of consumer, computer, communications, industrial and automotive applications its power solutions.

     Housed in a compact InSOP™-24D package, the new IC uses a FluxLink™ feedback link that provides reinforced isolation for secondary-side control up to 5000 Vrms. FluxLink technology directly detects the output voltage and has the advantage of providing high-precision control and extremely fast dynamic response characteristics. The power supply operates from an input voltage of 30V without resorting to external circuitry, which is critical to meeting functional safety requirements. Additional protection features include input undervoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, and overcurrent limiting.

     The new device also integrates synchronous rectification and quasi-resonant (QR)/CCM flyback controller, which can achieve more than 90% efficiency and easily meet the most stringent OEM requirements. The no-load power consumption of the power supply using this solution can be lower than 15mW, which can reduce the self-discharge of the battery in the battery management system.

     The InnoSwitch3-AQ 1700V device is also suitable for industrial applications, replacing the discrete controller plus MOSFET design with an integrated solution that saves space, time and cost while improving the performance of applications such as renewable energy, industrial motor drives, battery energy storage and electricity meters. reliability.
