
Power Integrations has released a new addition to the InnoSwitch™3 family of constant voltage/constant displacement fly-back switching power supply ics. The new IC offers 95% high efficiency over the entire load range and delivers 100 W power output without the use of heat sinks in a closed adapter. This breakthrough performance improvement comes from the in-house development of high-pressure gallium nitride switching technology.
The quasi-resonant mode InnoSwitch3-CP, InnoSwitch3-EP and InnoSwitch3-Pro ics integrate primary, secondary and feedback circuits in a surface-mount package. In the newly released family of devices, the gallium nitride switch replaces the conventional high-voltage silicon transistor in the IC primary, which reduces conduction losses during current flow and greatly reduces switching losses during operation. This ultimately helps to dramatically reduce the power consumption of the power supply, which in turn increases efficiency and allows the smaller SOP-24D package to deliver greater output power.
The new IC provides precise constant voltage/current/power without peripheral components and works easily with fast charge protocol interface ics, making it suitable for high-efficiency flyback designs, such as USB-PD and high-current chargers/adapters for mobile devices, set-top boxes, displays, home appliances, network devices and game consoles. The power characteristics of InnoSwitch3-CP and InnoSwitch3-EP can be configured by changing the hardware parameters, while InnoSwitch-Pro integrates an advanced digital interface to enable software control of constant voltage and constant current set points, exception handling and safe mode options.
