
Power Integrations announced the CHY103D, the latest addition to ChiPhy's Charger interface IC product family, which is the first to be compatible with Qualcomm Inc. The Quick Charge (QC) 3.0 protocol offline AC-DC charger IC developed by its subsidiary Qualcomm Technologies.
Used in conjunction with Power Integrations' InnoSwitch AC-DC switching IC, the CHY103D device provides all the features required to support QC 3.0. The perfect combination of QC 3.0 protocol and CHY103D device can greatly reduce the loss of smart mobile devices in the process of fast charging. This feature allows system designers to choose between increasing the charging speed of the phone or reducing the touch temperature of the phone during charging, and improving the efficiency of the charging process.
The IC enables voltage to change in increments of 200mV, rather than the larger steps used in many current fast charging designs (e.g., from 5 V to 9 or 12 V), thus increasing charging efficiency and reducing heat dissipation. This technology allows mobile devices to optimize the supply voltage of the offline charger, thereby minimizing power consumption in the phone's internal charge management system.
CHY103D has rich protection features, These include adaptive output overvoltage protection (AOVP), which prevents the output from exceeding 120% of the set output voltage, output Soft Short circuit protection (OSSP), which detects local short circuits and stops power output to prevent cables and connectors from overheating, and Remote shutdown Protection (RESP), which enables the receiving device to remotely turn off the adapter if a fault is detected.
The CHY103D device itself consumes less than 1 mW at 5 V output; When combined with high-efficiency InnoSwitch devices, this low power consumption helps designers meet stringent charger efficiency requirements, such as the upcoming revision of the U.S. Federal Standard for External Power Supplies.

CHY103D devices are suitable for battery chargers for mobile devices such as tablets, smartphones, Bluetooth accessories and USB power output ports. It is also compatible with Quick Charge 2.0 products.
