Power Integrations expands its product lineup with the release of the new InnoSwitch™3 Series of constant voltage/constant displacement fly-back switching power supply ics. The new INN3x78C device incorporates a smaller "No. 8" 750 V PowiGaN transistor to create a lightweight, high-efficiency power supply capable of delivering 27 W to 55 W of output power without the need for heat sinks. Like the larger devices in the gallium nitride-based InnoSwitch3 series (with a maximum target power of 120 W), these ics come in a safety-compliant InSOP™-24D package with a large creepage distance.

PowiGaN technology is known for its excellent efficiency - up to 94% under any input voltage and load conditions, and its high reliability ensures that the power supply can withstand input surges and voltage fluctuations when used in areas with unstable mains voltage. This allows Oems to meet global requirements with just one power supply design. The range of new devices to applications is very wide, including USB PD and high-current chargers/adapters for mobile devices, as well as set-top boxes, displays, networking devices, gaming products and home appliances - particularly suitable for those designed to meet the requirements of the planned European Energy Efficiency Labelling Directive.

Chris Lee, Director of Product Marketing at Power Integrations, said: "We are seeing a growing market demand for high-efficiency AC-DC converter ics that integrate high-reliability 750 V gallium nitride transistors. Because of the correlation between the breakdown voltage of a silicon MOSFET and the switching loss associated with COSS, it is difficult to meet both electrical voltage strength and high efficiency requirements. Our high electrical strength PowiGaN transistors have a very small COSS, so they can achieve an efficiency of more than 94%, which in turn makes it very intuitive to reduce market repair rates in subtropical product application environments."
