Power Integrations launches "New dual Channel" for 1.2kV to 2.3kV

     Power Integrations, a well-known company in the field of gate driver technology for medium and high voltage inverter applications, announced the launch of the SCALE-iFlex™ XLT series of dual-channel plug and play gate drivers. Suitable for a single LV100 (Mitsubishi), XHPTM 2 (Infineon), HPnC (Fujifilm) and equivalent semiconductor power modules up to 2300V, the module is suitable for energy storage systems as well as wind and photovoltaic renewable energy applications. This ultra-compact single-board driver provides active temperature rise management of the inverter module to improve system utilization and simplify the bill of Materials (BOM) to improve the reliability of the inverter system.

     Thorsten Schmidt, Product Marketing Manager at Power Integrations, said: "Building single-board gate drivers for these 'new dual-channel' IGBT modules has been a real challenge. "Our new SCALE-iFlex XLT gate drivers are compact and fit perfectly to the size of such modules, allowing easy installation of power modules and drivers, giving inverter system designers a high degree of mechanical design freedom."

     The SCALE-iFlex XLT dual-channel gate driver provides negative temperature coefficient (NTC) data, i.e. isolated temperature detection of the power module, for precise temperature rise management of the converter system. This enables system designers to optimize the thermal design and increase the power of the converter by 25 to 30 percent on the same hardware. The isolated NTC read function also reduces the complexity of inverter system hardware design, eliminating multiple cables, connectors, and additional safety isolation circuits.

     The new gate drivers feature Power Integrations' SCALE-2 chipset to minimize the number of components and improve reliability. The gate drive board still provides short-circuit protection to protect the power switching device.
