Power Integrations releases new reference designs for high power LED lighting applications

Power Integrations, the leader in high-efficiency, high-reliability LED driver ics, has introduced a new reference design for LED street lights, industrial lamps and other high-power LED lighting applications. The new reference design RDR-382 introduces a constant current, 43 V(rated), 150 W reference Power supply designed using Power Integrations' HiperPFS™-2 PFC controller IC and HiperLCS™ integrated LLC power stage IC.

     Power Integrations, the leader in high-efficiency, high-reliability LED driver ics, has introduced a new reference design for LED street lights, industrial lamps and other high-power LED lighting applications. The new reference design RDR-382 introduces a constant current, 43 V(rated), 150 W reference Power supply designed using Power Integrations' HiperPFS™-2 PFC controller IC and HiperLCS™ integrated LLC power stage IC.

 

     Traditional two-stage drivers, with separate PFC and LLC stages, require multiple DC-DC converters to convert the output to constant current (CC) when producing a constant voltage (CV) output. In contrast, the RDR-382 uses an innovative feedback and control scheme that enables the LLC to provide constant current directly at the output.

 

     As a result, the number of components has been reduced by about one-third, the efficiency has increased to more than 93%, and the power supply size has been significantly reduced with the elimination of the DC-DC converter. In addition, the highly rated LLC switching frequency (250 kHz) reduces the size of the required core elements, while the continuous on-mode variable frequency PFC stage reduces EMI interference compared to fixed frequency schemes.

 

     Andrew Smith, Senior product Marketing Manager at Power Integrations, said: "Reliability is particularly important for high-power lighting applications with output power above 75 W. Since the design is highly efficient, it generates very little heat and has fewer components, so it has a long service life."
