Powerbox has released the industry's first power supply for immersive computing applications

The company has announced the release of an "industry first" power supply solution for immersive applications such as overloaded computers. The OFI600A12 is the first commercial power supply designed to meet immersion application specifications and guarantee the highest level of safety for systems and operators.

The company has announced the release of an "industry first" power supply solution for immersive applications such as overloaded computers. The OFI600A12 is the first commercial power supply designed to meet immersion application specifications and guarantee the highest level of safety for systems and operators. With its built-in digital monitoring capabilities, the OFI600A12 can be reconfigured at the factory in just a few minutes to meet specific tasks and needs.

 

     The PRBX OFI600A12 is the result of two years of research and development and has been confirmed by Powerbox's R&D and quality teams as the certified platform for the next generation of immersion application power supplies. The OFI600A12 is based on an interlacing over-mode power factor correction (PFC) design with an LLC converter in the second stage. It is designed to have the lowest possible impulse current, less than 10A at 264VAC. The product input voltage range is 187~265VAC, dual output, the main output is 12V/600W, independent auxiliary output is 5V/10W, the efficiency is as high as 93%.

 

     The OFI600A12 includes remote switching, remote reset, overcurrent and overvoltage protection in compliance with safety and EMC regulations. Depending on the application, output protection may require one of several different configurations (off, auto restore mode or constant current), and to meet this requirement, the OFI600A12 can be reconfigured as required. Depending on the firmware defined profile and output protection configuration, the factory can select the mode of operation in a matter of minutes to meet the requirements of the specific application. The unit is protected by three anti-paint and complies with the RoHS and REACH directives.

 

     The concept of immersive data centers emerged in 2005, and after a series of successful trials and experiments, it is now a market reality. The technology requires special care when selecting switching power supply elements, although manufacturing practices are very similar to the requirements of the Marine industry in terms of robustness and durability in high humidity or high salt environments.

       With years of experience and expertise in developing power supplies for the Marine industry, the designers of Powerbox have transferred the best approach to reinforcement design to immersive electronics. In addition to the need for a new mechanical method to facilitate the circulation of fluid through and around the power supply, designers must also study the compatibility of each individual component with the coolant to ensure that they retain their mechanical and electrical properties when immersed, for example, the risk of corrosion. The development process also includes a thorough risk analysis to verify that the final product is safest for users and equipment when submerged in water.
