Powerbox introduces 105 DC/DC power modules for the 2XMOPP Medical demonstration

     Powerbox introduces three new families of 15W, 20W and 30W onboard DC/DC converters for demanding medical applications, totaling 105 models. PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 are certified to the third edition of the IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1 Medical safety standard and are rated as the highest level of patient protection -2xMOPP.

     The module has a clearance and creepage distance of 8 mm, a typical leakage current of 2 microamps, and an isolation voltage of 5,000 volts AC, ensuring the safety and protection of operators and patients in medical applications. To optimize efficiency and flexibility, all models are available in wide input (2:1) and ultra wide input (4:1) versions, covering 9V to 75V input voltages and offering seven different output voltages from 5V to +/-15V. Power converters come with a five-year warranty.

     In medical devices, safety is an absolute must and PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 have an input-output isolation voltage of 5000Vac as specified in the IEC/EN/ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1 safety standard. They integrate enhanced insulation and two modes of patient protection (2x MOPP) with a typical leakage current of 2 microamps and a gap and creepage distance of 8 mm.

     Many countries, such as China or South American countries, are bringing healthcare to mountain populations, and it is common in these countries for medical centers and hospitals to be located at altitudes above 3,000 meters. Medical equipment must be designed to ensure a maximum safety level of 5,000 meters. The Powerbox's PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 are designed for this purpose, and they also meet the requirements of the Chinese safety standard GB 4943.1-2011 for working at altitude.

     The PMM15, PMM20, and PMM30 wide input (2:1) units are available in three input voltage ranges: 9-18V, 18-36V, 36-75V, and an extra-wide input (4:1) version with two input voltages (9-36V and 18-75V). All models have a full range of output voltage adjustment, including 5V, 12V, 15V, 24V, +/-5V, +/-12V and +/-15V. No minimum load required, strict regulation from no-load to full load is +/-0.2% for single output and +/-0.5% for dual output. The PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 are designed around an optimized topology with up to 90% efficiency and can operate at ambient temperatures from -40 to +105 degrees Celsius. Derating can be used in the case of natural convection. In case of overheating, the internal overtemperature protection is set to +115 degrees Celsius.

     The PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 include a number of protective devices, including overvoltage, undervoltage, overload and short circuit, and thermal shutdown. The MM15 and PMM20 measure 40.6 x 25.4 x 10.2 mm (1.6 x 1 x 0.4 in), weigh 24 grams, and are packaged in a non-conductive black plastic housing with an UL94-V0 silicon compound.

     The PMM30 has a 50.8 x 25.4 x 10.2 mm (2.0 x 1.0 x 0.4 in) housing and weighs 32 grams. Without the use of external components, the PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 meet the EMI levels specified in EN55011, EN55032 and FCC Part 18 Class A, according to MIL-HDBK-217F, at full load and at +25 degrees Celsius. The average trouble-free working time of PMM15 and PMM20 is 2 million hours, and the average trouble-free working time of PMM30 is 1.1 million hours.

     Optional remote control pins (P) for positive logic and (N) for negative logic can be used for external control on/off. All single-output voltage modules can be externally adjusted up and down by adding a resistance bridge connected to the trimmer pin. The PMM15, PMM20 and PMM30 are suitable for a very wide range of medical applications, such as home medical AIDS, ultrasound, auxiliary ventilation, infusion pumps, dental surgery chairs and monitoring systems.

     In industrial applications, the 5000Vac enhanced isolation digital makes the PMM an ideal solution to add an IGBT drive channel to any industrial power supply at low cost, meeting the safety requirements required for such applications.
PMM series includes 6 series, 3W PMM03; 6W PMM06; 10W PMM10; 15W PMM15; 20W PMM20 and 30W PMM30. All products comply with the European directives RoHS, REACH and CE marks.
