Pulse Electronics' high current inductor uses the latest high-frequency materials to provide lower core loss

     Pulse Power is expanding its portfolio of high current low DCR inductors for single-phase PoL and polyphase buck converters to power processors, memory modules, FPGAs, and ASICs in servers, data centers, network systems, and video cards. These four series use high-frequency materials, have lower DCR and higher current rating, have a variety of different packages, and can provide lower core loss. These polyphase step-down topologies distribute current between multiple parallel paths, and have staggered turn off and turn on.

     The ripple current in each phase is often offset at the output by the interleaving operation of each phase, so the overall ripple current at the load is far less than the ripple current of each phase. This approach allows for the use of smaller inductors (typically on the order of 50 nH to 300 nH) and allows design engineers to balance the speed of the converter's response to load current changes (transient response) with the stability of the control loop. By adjusting the number of phases used in the converter, users can flexibly optimize the circuit for their specific application
