Qorvo Launches Highly Configurable Compact PMIC

     Qorvo announced the launch of ACT88420, a highly configurable programmable constant on time (COT) power management integrated circuit (PMIC) with six voltage rails. The highly compact ACT88420 is ideal for space constrained designs such as Internet of Things (IoT) applications, point of sale terminals, and webcams.

     The ACT88,420 has an input voltage range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V and provides two 4 A and two 2 A step-down regulators, as well as two 400 mA LDO. The regulator 1 and LDO can be configured as load switches, and the regulator 4 can be used as a 400 mA LDO. ACT88420 includes I2C monitoring and controller, programmable power timing and eight configurable tri state GPIOs. The number of pins is reduced and the functions are increased, enabling engineers to support multiple SKU operations.

     David Briggs, senior director of Qorvo programmable power management business unit, said: "The six power rails support a high level of configuration, and the step-down converter and LDO can be used as load switches, which provides designers with greater system flexibility, and three-state GPIO can be programmed multiple times. Therefore, ACT88,420 allows designers to configure up to three levels of operation for each module."

     This advanced PMIC has efficient performance in both heavy load and extremely light load applications. It can be easily reconfigured through I2C without changing the PCB, and is widely used. ACT88420 provides programming electronic dog to support reconfiguration, thus shortening the time to market.

     ACT88420 PMIC is packaged with 2.66 x 2.66 mm 36 ball WLCSP, which minimizes the need for external components, and can provide samples and mass production. This video shows the building blocks of ACT88420, ActiveCiPS programming tools, configurability and target applications.
