Qorvo offers USB fast charger PMIC for mobile devices in vehicles

     Qorvo, a leading provider of RF solutions for mobile applications, infrastructure and aerospace and defense applications, has introduced the ACT4751M power management integrated circuit (PMIC), further expanding the company's portfolio of in-vehicle charging solutions for fast charging of mobile phones, tablets and laptops. The Qorvo ACT4751M is the industry's first buck and regulator IC certified to the AEC-Q100 standard for USB Type-C fast charging applications.

Qorvo's AEC-Q100 certified power supply IC ACT4751M is a unique and easy-to-use step-down product that is the smallest yet most powerful on the market."

     The ACT4751M meets all Power requirements for USB fast charging applications, including the Power Delivery 3.0 Programmable Power Supply (USB PD 3.0 PPS) specification. Unlike competing converter products, it integrates both power and analog functions in a single power IC. When used in combination with a power transmission controller, the solution creates a complete USB fast charging solution, thereby reducing development time and BOM costs.

     The independently step-down ACT4751M operates at up to 40V and is protected against load drop events of up to 48V in harsh automotive environments. Step-down chargers provide protection between the power supply and the device to regulate the difference between the voltage source and the battery being charged. Type-C is a universal port capable of delivering high power. As more and more applications adopt USB Type-C ports, these chargers are becoming increasingly popular.

     The AEC-Q100 is an industry standard specification developed by the Automotive Electronics Council (AEC).
