
Qorvo introduces new energy-efficient, small base station front-end solutions for the sub-6 GHz wireless infrastructure market. The product significantly improves efficiency and enables base station manufacturers to enhance their existing 4G LTE infrastructure for higher bandwidth, coverage, throughput and capacity, especially for high-density, high-traffic areas.
Strategy Analytics predicts that "Driven by the explosive growth of emerging 5G networks, the number of new base stations deployed will double between 2018 and 2024." 5G relies on network architecture, including traditional macro cells, as well as low-power small base stations that support sub-6 GHz and millimeter wave bands."
Qorvo's new solutions include the QPA9903 power amplifier (PA) in Band 3, the QPA9908 power amplifier in band 8, and the QPL9098 4-6 GHz bypass ultra low noise amplifier. The power amplifier provides 34% power additional efficiency to enable Power over Ethernet (POE) small cell architectures primarily targeted at high-traffic areas, such as subways, train stations and stadiums, or high quality of service (QoS) on-premises applications.
The power amplifier can be easily linearized using the DPD algorithm, and its performance is optimized to support wideband multi-carrier signals (as opposed to single-carrier 20 MHz signals). In addition, this highly reliable power amplifier can handle highly mismatched signals at output - up to 20:1 voltage resident waveform radio (VSWR). Rugged package to withstand a variety of harsh environments.
Roger Hall, general Manager of Qorvo's High Performance Solutions business unit, said: "Our new small cell products further enrich Qorvo's cost-effective system-level architecture solutions for wireless infrastructure. By expanding the bandwidth capacity of existing networks, customers can more cost-effectively transition to 5G and implement large-scale manufacturing expansions with Qorvo's support."
As a 3GPP representative, Qorvo helped develop 5G standards and worked closely with wireless infrastructure manufacturers, network operators, chipset suppliers and smartphone manufacturers to lay the groundwork for the 5G development path. Qorvo has helped complete dozens of 5G field trials, and Qorvo's 28 GHz products also supported Samsung's 5G MIMO demonstration at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
