Qualcomm Snapdragon X65/X62 two 5G basebands were released at the same time to facilitate the creation of diversified terminals

     Qualcomm's fourth-generation 5G baseband Snapdragon X65 was officially released, which can be called Qualcomm's biggest leap forward in 5G solutions. The Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G baseband is the world's first 10Gbps 5G speed support and the first 3GPP Release 16 compliant modem and RF system, designed to support the fastest 5G transmission speeds on the market with fiber-optic wireless performance.

 

     The world's fastest 5G transmission rate provided by Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G baseband and RF system can support consumers to enjoy browsing speed and low latency comparable to optical fiber, and obtain a new generation of networking applications and experiences through 5G wireless connection. This includes cloud and edge computing, responsive multiplayer gaming, rich entertainment, immersive 360-degree video, and real-time applications.

 

     Dejia Ma, senior vice president and general manager of 4G/5G business at Qualcomm Technologies, said: "The Snapdragon X65 combines all the expectations of the world's leading wireless technology innovators for key 5G technology breakthroughs. Our 4th-generation 5G modems and RF systems are designed for global 5G deployments, bringing significant innovations from modems to antennas, as well as broad spectrum aggregation capabilities covering Sub-6GHz and millimeter wave bands. This will drive the rapid expansion of 5G, while improving network coverage, energy efficiency and performance for users.

 

     In addition to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G baseband, Qualcomm also launched the Qualcomm Snapdragon X62 5G baseband and RF system, which is a modem-to-antenna solution optimized for the mainstream mobile broadband application market. Compared to the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G baseband, the Snapdragon X62 is no different from the Snapdragon X65 in the 4nm process, support for 3GPP Release 16, millimeter wave and Sub-6G aggregation, and baseband to antenna solutions. The biggest difference between the two is that the Snapdragon X62 streamlined the downlink bandwidth, the millimeter wave band from 1GHz to 400MHz, the Sub-6G band from 300MHz to 120MHz, the result is that the peak download rate from the Snapdragon X65 10Gbps to 4.4Gbps.

 

     In fact, this major difference in speed between the Snapdragon X65 and the Snapdragon X62 is not a problem for consumers who are not pursuing 5G extreme connectivity, but the reduction in speed can reduce the price of the X62 at the same time, so that Oems can develop more products with different positioning to meet the needs of users with different consumer tendencies.

 

     For the different needs of different levels of users, creating corresponding diversified products has become a practice for Qualcomm in promoting the popularization of 5G. Previously, shortly after the release of the Snapdragon 888 5G flagship chip, Qualcomm released another Snapdragon 870 chip for the high-end 5G mobile phone market, further subdividing the 5G high-end mobile phone market, creating differentiated and diversified products, and enriching the 5G mobile phone product line.

 

     This time, at the same time that Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G baseband is released, Qualcomm also released a Snapdragon X62 5G baseband for the mainstream mass market, which will undoubtedly make the 5G baseband chip market in 2021 have more layers, and the 5G SoC based on these two different 5G basebands will have more "patterns", and correspondingly, Future 5G mobile phones and other terminal products will be more colorful.
