Qualcomm announces the world's first 10Gbps 5G modem and RF system

Qualcomm Technologies Inc. announced the Snapdragon X65 5G Modem and Radio Frequency System (" Snapdragon X65 ") - a fourth-generation 5G modem to antenna solution. It is the world's first 10Gbps 5G speed support and the first 3GPP Release 16 compliant modem and RF system, is currently being tested to terminal manufacturers, using the new system is expected to launch commercial terminals in 2021.

Since the first modem and RF systems were commercially available, the Snapdragon X65 is the company's biggest leap forward in 5G solutions. The system is designed to support the fastest 5G transmission speeds on the market today with fiber-comparable wireless performance, and make full use of available spectrum for extreme network flexibility, capacity and coverage. In addition to the Snapdragon X65, Qualcomm Technologies also introduced the Snapdragon X62 5G Modem and Radio Frequency System (" Snapdragon X62 "), a modem-to-antenna solution optimized for the mainstream mobile broadband application market.

In addition, with their capabilities at extended range and high power, the Snapdragon X65 and Snapdragon X62 also play a central role in expanding 5G to fixed wireless access and cloud-connected computing."

 

Key innovations in the flagship Snapdragon X65 5G modem and RF system include:

● Scalable architecture to support enhancement, expansion and customization across 5G market segments; And through software updates, support for new upcoming features, functions, and rapid deployment of new 3GPP Release 16 features. Especially as 5G expands into new verticals such as computing, Industrial iot and fixed wireless access, this scalable architecture can enable future-proof solutions based on the Snapdragon X65 to support the adoption of new features, extend end life and help reduce total cost of ownership.

● The 4th generation Qualcomm QTM545 millimeter wave antenna module is designed to expand mobile millimeter wave network coverage and improve energy efficiency. The Qualcomm QTM545 millimeter wave antenna module, paired with the new Snapdragon X65 modem and RF system, supports higher transmit power than its predecessor, supporting all millimeter wave bands worldwide, including the new n259 (41GHz) band, while maintaining the same compact board area as its predecessor.

● The world's first AI antenna tuning technology is the first step in bringing more than a decade of pioneering AI research and development into mobile RF systems, bringing significant improvements in cellular technology performance and energy efficiency. For example, AI has achieved a 30% increase in the detection accuracy of hand grip terminals compared to previous generations of technology. This boost can lead to enhanced antenna tuning capabilities that increase data transfer speeds, improve coverage, and extend battery life.

● Next-generation power tracking solutions are smaller, more efficient and offer higher performance - superior performance and cost effectiveness compared to conventional power tracking technology.

● The most comprehensive spectrum aggregation, covering all major 5G bands and their combinations, including millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz bands, FDD and TDD, giving operators extreme flexibility through the use of fragmented 5G spectrum assets.

● Qualcomm 5G PowerSave 2.0, based on new power-saving technologies defined by 3GPP Release 16, such as connect-mode Wake Up Signal.

● Qualcomm Smart Transmit™ 2.0, a unique system-level technology licensed by Qualcomm Technologies, can be used with Snapdragon X65 modems and RF systems to continuously meet RF emission requirements by leveraging system awareness from modem to antenna. Delivers higher upload rates and wider network coverage in the millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz bands.

 

These innovations and many other performance improvements in the Snapdragon X65 modem and RF system are designed to deliver a superior 5G experience with faster cellular communication speeds, wider network coverage, and all-day battery life. The Snapdragon X65 will support a new generation of top-tier smartphones and support 5G expansion into segments such as PCS, mobile hotspots, industrial iot, fixed wireless access and 5G enterprise private networks. Qualcomm Technologies also introduced a widely available product based on the Snapdragon X65 - the Snapdragon X62 5G modem and RF system. The Snapdragon X62 is a 5G modem to antenna solution for mobile broadband applications that can support download speeds of thousands of megabits.
