Qualcomm's Zeroth cognition platform enables mobile phones to understand the world

     This year, it is confirmed that Zeroth computer cognition platform will be introduced in the new high-end processor Snapdragon 820, Qualcomm also actually demonstrated the simple application of Zeroth computer cognition platform at MWC 2015, such as automatic handwritten text recognition through the camera, or image content recognition. It can automatically apply text, automatically arrange digital photos according to classification and other applications. In the future development part, Qualcomm also expects to add more automatic recognition technology applications in the Zeroth platform, so that mobile phones and other devices can more easily serve as user assistance roles.

     At the MWC 2015 booth, Qualcomm explained the Zeroth computer cognition platform selected for the new high-end processor Snapdragon 820, in which the camera component is used to shoot handwritten text (or just point the lens at the text). The system automatically converts handwritten text recognition into digital text, which takes only a few seconds to complete. On the other hand, when the same technology is applied in processing image content recognition, it can also further automatically make specific descriptions for the main objects of digital photo content, so that the system "knows" the specific details of the photo content, and then can be applied in photo classification, content search and other applications.

     Similar technology has also been proposed by Google, Microsoft, etc., but also has quite good recognition performance, and this time by Qualcomm proposed this technology application, will be able to further assist users to strengthen applications such as shooting translation, image optimization and other applications by automatic image recognition, so as to enhance mobile phone application functions, but also simplify the user operation process. At the same time, as users continue to use and adjust, the Zeroth computer cognitive platform will also be able to learn to recognize content more correctly.

     As for whether to further expand the application scope of Zeroth computer cognition platform in the future, for example, to further cooperate with GPS positioning to remind users what App content can be used, or to determine whether users are at rest time according to identification conditions such as time, and then turn on the phone do not disturb mode to avoid continuous calls or emails and other interference.

     At present, the Zeroth computer cognition platform will be provided as an optional option on the Snapdragon 820 processor. Qualcomm has no specific plan on whether it will be further deployed to other processors in the future, but currently it mainly supports the performance and power saving effect of the Snapdragon 820 processor. Therefore, it is still expected that it will take some time before decentralization to other processors is considered.
