RECOM's three-terminal switching regulator

     RECOM's R-78 series three-terminal switched regulators have been an efficient alternative TO the widely popular TO-220 three-terminal linear regulators, saving energy, board space and cost by eliminating the cost of a radiator and its assembly. All R-78K family components have short circuit protection with undervoltage locking and automatic recovery, requiring only a simple input filter to meet EN 55032 class B EMC standard specification. Versions rated at 0.5A and 1A come in a SIP-3 miniature package with a space area of 11.5 x 7.55mm and a height of 10.2mm; The 2A version is 11.5 x 8.5mm and 17.5mm tall, also in a SIP-3 package.

     RECOM introduced an updated version of the series in 2023 under the name R-78Kxx, which upgraded the specifications. Versions are available in ratings of 0.5A, 1A and 2A, with fixed outputs of 1.2V, 1.5V, 1.8V, 2.5V and 6.5V depending on the model, as well as traditional outputs of 3.3V, 5V, 9V, 12V and 15V. The input voltage range is extended to a maximum of 36V, and peak efficiency across the range is increased to 96%, enabling all components to operate at temperatures up to 90°C, most of which do not require derating.
