RISC-V MPUs for Internet of Things endpoint and industrial gateway applications

     Renesas Electronics RZ/ 5-risc-v MPU. The RZ/Five extends its previously offered Arm CPU core-based MPUs and is the first general-purpose MPUs based on the Andean AX45MP using the RISC-V CPU ISA. The enhanced 64-bit RISC-V MPUs provide users with greater flexibility by providing tools and building blocks to help bring designs to market faster, including support through the Renesas RZ partner ecosystem.

     The MPU is a single-core 64-bit processor with a maximum operating frequency of 1GHz. The MPU has 128KB of internal SRAM and ECC, 16-bit DDR4-1600 or DDR3L-1333 memory ports, and online ECC supports up to 4GB of RAM. Peripheral features include support for multiple interfaces, including two gigabit Ethernet MAC channels, two USB 2.0 channels, and two CAN/ CAN-FD serial interfaces. Additional features of the device include a dual-channel 12-bit ADC, heat sensor, four I2C interfaces, three SPI interfaces, and gpio. For security support, the MPU also provides 1Kbit OTP memory, secure boot, encryption engine, and secure JTAG.

     For further design flexibility, peripheral functions and packages are compatible with those of RZ/G2UL based on the Arm core, making it easy to reuse existing and proven designs. The MPU is available in a 13mm x 13mm BGA-361 or 11mm x 11mm BGA-266 package. The BGA-361 option includes a two-channel gigabit Ethernet interface, while the BGA-266 option includes a single-channel gigabit Ethernet interface. Both packages feature 0.5mm pitch. Mpus have been developed specifically for iot endpoint devices for applications such as Industrial iot or industrial gateway for entry level social infrastructure control and industrial control, respectively.

     The appliance also provides long-term Linux support through a verified Linux package with Linux, the civilian infrastructure platform, to address enterprise infrastructure and industrial applications that require high reliability and extended service life.
