Raspberry Pi introduced two updated versions of Pico development boards. One is the version with pre welded joints (Pico H), and the other is the version with built-in Wi Fi (Pico W). Pico H is the original Raspberry Pi Pico, but now pre welded joints are installed. Pico W is similar to the original Raspberry Pi Pico, but it uses Infineon's CYW43439 on-board Wi Fi module, so it supports 2.4 GHz Wi Fi connection and connects to the RP2040 microcontroller through SPI.
Pico W design either uses a 0.1 "pin array or directly welds the tooth shaped I/O pin to the board to become a surface mounted module. It also has SMT pads under the USB connector and BOOTSEL button, so if it is used as an SMT module, it can access these signals.
Pico W also uses on-board buck boost SMPS to generate 3.3 V for RP2040 and external circuits. The SMPS allows a wide input voltage range of 1.8 V to 5.5 V. These voltages can come from multiple sources, such as a single lithium ion battery, USB, or even three AA batteries in series.
