Renesas 32-bit RX65N series microcontrollers are certified by Amazon FreeRTOS

     Renesas Electronics has announced that its RX65N family of microcontrollers (MCUS) has been certified to run Amazon FreeRTOS on Amazon Web Services (AWS). The perfect combination of Renesas RX65N series MCUS with Amazon FreeRTOS makes it easy for embedded system designers to create more secure end-to-end Internet of Things (IoT) cloud solutions for sensor-based endpoint devices. The RX65N-based design can transmit sensor data over Wi-Fi or Ethernet and allows users to monitor smart meters and building and industrial automation systems using PC dashboards.

     Developers can jump-start their designs with the Renesas RX65N Starter Kit, which includes an RX65N MCU with 2MB code flash memory, an LCD display module, an on-chip debug simulator, and an e2 studio integrated development environment. The suite allows designers to edit and debug sample software certified by Amazon FreeRTOS on an RX65N MCU. With Amazon FreeRTOS, developers can more securely deploy RX65N McUs-based endpoint devices without worrying about the complexity of scaling across millions of devices. Once connected to the cloud, IoT endpoint device applications can take advantage of all the capabilities of the cloud or continue to process data locally using AWS IoT Greengrass.

     The RX65N MCU features dual flash memory designed to improve security and easily update programs over the network. Compared to other iot devices, industrial applications are designed for long-term operation and often involve unique and challenging requirements, such as on-site firmware updates. The integration of dual flash memory on the RX65N MCU enables BGO (background operation) and SWAP capabilities, making it easier and more secure for system and network control manufacturers to perform field firmware updates.

     The RX65N MCU also includes the Trusted Secure IP as part of its built-in hardware security engine. The Trusted Secure IP driver uses powerful key management capabilities with hardware accelerators - AES, 3DES, SHA, RSA and True random number Generator (TRNG) - as well as a protected boot code flash area to more securely boot up customers' iot devices.
