Renesas Electronics Expands FemtoClock Lineup for High-Performance Communications and Data Centers

     Renesas Electronics Group, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced the expansion of Renesas clocking solutions with the introduction of a new "point-of-use" clocking solution with less than 100fs jitter for the data center, server and network infrastructure sectors. The new FemtoClock2 product family includes ultra-low jitter clock generators and jitter attenuators in a small 4mm x 4mm package that enables economical and simple clock tree configuration for next-generation high-speed interconnect designs.

     FemtoClock2 delivers ultra-low jitter performance up to 64fs RMS, enabling customers to easily meet new switch or router design requirements for next-generation PAM4. The FemtoClock2 product family is packaged in a 4mm x 4mm package, which is less than one-third the size of similar solutions on the market. This allows designers to place the clock source at the point of use (that is, very close to the device receiving the clock signal) to simplify PCB layout, reduce crosstalk, and obtain cleaner signals. Excellent flexibility makes this series suitable for many applications. FemtoClock2 can be configured as a DCO, clock generator or jitter attenuator, providing valuable design flexibility and reusability.

FemtoClock2 can also be seamlessly integrated with the newly introduced PTP Clock Manager based on the IEEE1588 protocol, and can also be combined with Renesas' rich power supplies and microcontrollers to develop a variety of applications, such as the IEEE1588 successful product portfolio.
