Renesas Electronics Group Introduces Newly Upgraded R-Car V3H System-on-Chip (SoC), Bringing Significantly Improved Deep Learning Performance to Smart Camera Applications including Driver/Occupant Monitoring Systems (DMS/OMS), Vehicle Front Cameras, Surround View system and automatic parking for most vehicles up to Level 2+. The upgraded SoC integrates sensor fusion on the real-time domain, up to ASIL C-level metrics, and an architecture optimized for intelligent computer vision. It provides high-performance, low-power solutions to OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers at a very competitive system cost, and supports the latest NCAP 2020 requirements and migration to the NCAP 2025 3-star technology roadmap.
Based on the SoC released in February 2018, incorporating the latest recognition technologies such as integrated IP for convolutional neural networks (CNN), the upgraded R-Car V3H has 4 times the performance of the earlier version in CNN processing and is Achieve up to 7.2 TOPS of overall processing performance including all computer vision IP while maintaining low power consumption levels.
The highly integrated SoC supports safety metrics up to ASIL C level in the real-time domain, reducing the need to use an external safety microcontroller (MCU) to manage sensor fusion and eventual decision execution. R-Car V3H has rich and proven IP to support perception stack, fusion with radar and/or lidar sensors, and ISP that can support up to 8 megapixel cameras, enabling OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers to operate at lower lower bill of materials costs for faster time-to-market.
