Renesas Electronics RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor

     Renesas Electronics RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor (MPU). With the introduction of the RZ/Five, Renesas further expands the previously available lineup of MPUs with Arm CPU cores. RZ/Five is the first universal MPUs with Andes AX45MP and RISC-V CPU instruction set architecture (ISA) in the market. This enhanced 64-bit RISC-V MPUs helps users bring their designs to market faster by providing easy access to tools and building blocks, supported by Renesas' RZ partner ecosystem, which helps users increase design flexibility.

     The Renesas RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor is a single-core 64-bit processor operating at a maximum frequency of 1GHz. This MPU has 128KB of internal SRAM (with ECC) and 16-bit DDR4-1600 or DDR3L-1333 memory interface (supports inline ECC and up to 4GB of RAM). Peripheral features include support for multiple interfaces, such as two gigabit Ethernet MAC channels, two USB 2.0 channels, and two serial CAN/CAN-FD interfaces.

     Additional RZ/Five features include a dual-channel 12-bit ADC, heat sensor, four I2C interfaces, three SPI interfaces, and GPIO. To support security features, the MPU also has 1Kb OTP memory, secure boot, encryption engine, and secure JTAG. To increase design flexibility, RZ/Five's peripheral functions and packages are pin-compatible with those of RZ/G2UL based on the Arm core, making it easy to reuse proven existing designs.

     The RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor comes in a 13 mm x 13 mm BGA-361 or 11 mm x 11 mm BGA-266 package. The BGA-361 package provides dual-channel Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, while the BGA-266 package provides single-channel gigabit Ethernet interfaces. The foot spacing of both packages is 0.5mm.

     Developed specifically for Internet of Things (IoT) endpoint devices, the RZ/Five-RISC-V microprocessor is ideal for applications such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) or industrial gateways, for entry level social infrastructure control and industrial control, respectively. These microprocessors also use the proven Linux Software package (VLP) with the Civil Infrastructure Platform™ (CIP) Linux kernel to provide long-term Linux support for enterprise infrastructure and industrial applications that require high reliability and long service life.
