Renesas Electronics introduces DDR5 data buffers for high-performance server and cloud service applications

     In the past few years, the rapid development of real-time analytics, machine learning, HPC, AI, and other memory and bandwidth demanding applications has driven the explosive growth of server memory bandwidth requirements, and load shedding dual-in-line memory modules (LRDIMMs) have become the cornerstone of memory technology that drives these applications.

     Renesas' new JEDEC-compatible DDR5 data buffer 5DB0148 provides LRDIMMs with significantly faster speeds and reduced latency. The first generation DDR5 LRDIMMs based on Renesas components deliver a bandwidth increase of more than 35% compared to DDR4 LRDIMMs running at 3200MT/s. Renesas Electronics announced the introduction of a new high-speed, low-power DDR5 data buffer for data center, server and high-performance workstation applications.

     Renesas DDR5 data buffers maximize the system eye view of heavy channels through a combination of capacitance-load reduction, data alignment, and signal recovery technologies. This enables server motherboards with a large number of memory channels and slots and complex routing topologies to operate at maximum speed even when high-density memory is fully loaded. In addition, improvements in the definition of DDR5 modules allow for lower supply voltage (1.1V in DDR5 and 1.2V in DDR4), voltage regulation within DIMM modules, and advanced control plane architectures through the use of SPD hubs and modern control bus communication such as I3C.
