Renesas Electronics introduces LTE CAT-M1 module for large-scale iot

     Renesas has introduced RYZ014A, Renesas' first cellular iot module that supports the LTE Cat-M1 specification. By relying on the existing communications infrastructure owned by mobile network operators, the technology enables devices to connect directly to the Internet without the need for a gateway. This allows each device to be economically connected, which is particularly advantageous when installing large networks that require lower unit costs. The pre-tested, pre-certified RYZ014A enables customers to quickly and cost-effectively implement wireless IoT applications worldwide.

     Compared to building a wireless iot solution from scratch, the RYZ014A module solves the customer's design and certification issues. This includes RF regulatory certification, PTCRB/GCF certification and carrier certification for the network operator of the customer's choice. From a hardware and software point of view, the module is based on proven technology and has been thoroughly tested and calibrated. It is certified by all major RF regulations worldwide as well as leading network operators in North America, Asia Pacific and Europe. Cellular iot is one of the pillars of Renesas' connectivity strategy, which also includes Bluetooth ® Low Energy, Ultra Wideband (UWB) and Wi-SUN.

     Renesas has partnered with Sequans Communications , a leading developer and provider of iot 5G and 4G chips and modules on the RYZ014A module. Sequans provides the Monarch LTE CAT-M1 hardware and software technology used in the modules and has extensive experience in implementing wireless iot ona global scale.
