Renesas Electronics introduces fully packaged hybrid digital DC/DC PMBus power modules

Renesas Electronics has introduced a suite of full-package hybrid digital DC/DC PMBus™ power modules: the 10A ISL8280M and 15A ISL8282M in 12mm x 11mm packages that deliver industry-leading 115mA/mm2 power densities with peak efficiency of up to 95%. These two products are complete step-down regulated power supplies that operate in a wide input voltage range of 5V to 16V.

Two new analog power modules, ISL8210M and ISL8212M, are available in the same pin-compatible 12mm x 11mm package and offer 10A and 15A output currents, respectively. These hybrid digital and analog power modules enable point-of-load (POL) conversion for high-end FPgas, DSPS, ASics, and memory used in servers, storage products, optical networking, telecommunications products, and a variety of space-constrained industrial applications. Each module integrates a PWM controller, MOSFETs and inductors in a new, thermally optimized, grid High Density Array (GHDA) package. The designer only needs to add some input and output ceramic capacitors to complete the power supply design.

The ISL828xM Hybrid digital power supply module and ISL821xM analog power supply module integrate the LDO for single power supply, utilizing patented technologies such as Renesas R4™ High speed control loop architecture and built-in line voltage feedforward mechanism to provide designers with a unique combination of ultra-fast load transient response and high noise resistance. Proprietary GHDA packaging technology delivers unmatched electrical and thermal performance through a single-layer conductive packaging substrate that efficiently transfers heat from the module to the system board, even under high load conditions, without the need for fans or heat sinks.
