
Renesas Electronics, the world's leading provider of semiconductor solutions, announced the introduction of the magneticless IPS2200 inductive position sensor. With high precision, high speed and complete immunity to stray magnetic field interference, the IPS2200 enables efficient integration with motors in an ultra-thin, lightweight product form factor and is an absolute position sensor for a wide range of industrial, medical and robotic applications. The sensor enables customers to cost-effectively customize sensor designs for their applications and maximize sensor accuracy.

The IPS2200 is designed around the motor, allowing customers to match the number of sectors to the number of motor poles for maximum accuracy, while accommodating off-axis (through and side-axis) and end-shaft arrangements. Compared to conventional rotary transformers, the magneticless IPS2200 can be as thin as one-tenth of the thickness, weigh as little as one-hundredth of the weight, and have an electrical speed of up to 250 krpm. The sensor's thin form factor and full stray magnetic field immunity make motor integration easier and provide customers with the standard materials needed to manufacture their own rotary transformer alternatives, thereby reducing BOM costs. With four - or six-wire connections, the IPS2200 achieves up to 10x speed and extremely low latency compared to rotary transformers or magnetism-based solutions.
