Renesas Electronics introduces the 15Mbps optocoupler for harsh industrial applications

     Renesas Electronics announced the launch of three new 15Mbps optocouplers for the harsh working environment of industrial and factory automation equipment. The trend towards higher voltage, compact systems requires more stringent international safety standards and environmentally friendly solutions that require smaller ics and lower power consumption. The RV1S9x60A series has the best Low Threshold input current (IFHL) ratings: the RV1S9160A (SO5) operates at 2.0mA, the RV1S9060A (LSO5) at 2.2mA, and the RV1S9960A (LSDIP8) at 3.8mA.

     The low power RV1S9x60A photocoupler function is effective enough to suppress power supply heating, and can be installed near IGBT or MOSFET power devices to operate at high temperatures of 125°C while saving board space. These devices target DC-AC power converters, AC servo motors, programmable logic controllers (PLCS), robotic arms, solar and wind input power regulators, and battery management systems for energy storage and charging.

     With a high common-mode rejection ratio (noise tolerance) of up to 50 kV/µs (min), the RV1S9x60A photocoupler protects microcontrollers and other I/O logic circuits from high-voltage spikes while transmitting high-speed signals. The RV1S9x60A series is also available in a variety of packages, each reinforced isolated (up to 690 Vrms) with a minimum package area of 4.2mm-14.5mm minimum creepage distance to ensure safe operation.
