Renesas Electronics introduces the industry's first ASi-5 ASSP for industrial automation

     Renesas Electronics  a leading global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced the launch of the industry's first chip solution that fully implements the ASi-5 (Actuator - Sensor Interface Specification V5) standard for industrial networking equipment - ASI4U-V5 ASSP. ASi-5 offers superior performance and availability compared to ASi-3, offering cycle times as low as 1.27ms, cable lengths up to 200 meters, and support for 96 slave devices per network segment. The field-proven ASSP provides an easy-to-use fieldbus integration option for developers working with sensors, actuators, and other industrial devices that require simple and cost-effective fieldbus connections.

     The fully validated and field tested firmware of the new ASI4U-V5 ASSP minimizes design risk by reducing the complexity of ASi-5 deployments. ASSP is ASi-5 compliant, fully backward compatible with ASi-3, and includes features such as short cycle times, higher bandwidth based on orthogonal Frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), enhanced diagnostic capabilities, and advanced robustness. ASSP supports all bus topologies, including lines, stars, and trees. ASSP also has the advantage of easy and cost-effective integration with other industrial protocols such as IO-Link and HART.
