Renesas Electronics introduces two synchronous controllers with low static current dual outputs

Renesas Electronics announced the introduction of two new 42V bisynchronous controllers with a minimum static current of 6µA and integrated 2A pull current /3A feed current MOSFETs to provide primary power level solutions for Renesas R-Car H3 and R-Car M3 SOCs. The ISL78264 dual synchronous step-down controller manages the intermediate first stage DC/DC conversion, step-down the 12V battery system to 5V and 3.3V to provide 50W-200W power levels for the vehicle Electronic control Unit (ECU), the in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI) and the digital cockpit system.

     Renesas Electronics announced the introduction of two new 42V bisynchronous controllers with a minimum static current of 6µA and integrated 2A pull current /3A feed current MOSFETs to provide primary power level solutions for Renesas R-Car H3 and R-Car M3 SOCs. The ISL78264 dual synchronous step-down controller manages the intermediate first stage DC/DC conversion, step-down the 12V battery system to 5V and 3.3V to provide 50W-200W power levels for the vehicle Electronic control Unit (ECU), the in-vehicle infotainment system (IVI) and the digital cockpit system. The ISL78263 dual synchronous boost controller provides DC/DC conversion to support 25W-100W power levels. If the battery voltage (VBAT) drops to 2.1V at the start instantaneous or during the start/stop process, a pre-boost function is provided.

 

     Niall Lyne, Vice president of Renesas Electronics Automotive Analog Power and Video, said: "The ISL78264 and ISL78263 provide the ideal primary power conditioning solution for Renesas R-Car H3 and R-Car M3 SOCs, bringing new electronic architectures to the automotive industry to improve vehicle performance, efficiency, safety and reliability. The controller's normally on operating state and the industry's lowest static current provide power system designers with the power margin they need to keep the system in the 100µA and even down to 50µA power range. "The ISL78264 and ISL78263 have integrated powerful MOSFET drivers that deliver higher efficiency and power than other on-board lift VBAT controller solutions."

 

     The ISL78264 dual synchronous step-down controller and ISL78263 dual synchronous step-down controller provide energy saving low static current (Iq) of 6µA (typical value) on a single step-down channel. Both controllers have integrated FET drives that simplify power supply design by providing industry-leading 96% peak efficiency and output currents greater than 10A. The product incorporates feedback resistors and external power blocking diodes for applications requiring start-up support, as well as programmable spread spectrum to address the challenges posed by EMI interference. For example, tolerating VBAT load drops reduces the additional cost and size of surge protection, and supporting start-up transients reduces the input capacitance required. Built-in EMI noise reduction, switching frequency up to 2.2 MHz, can reduce the cost and size of EMI filtering/shielding.

 

     The ISL78264 and ISL78263 also include extensive protection against overvoltage (OV), undervoltage (UV), overcurrent, and overheat, as well as bootstry-supply undervoltage detection and refresh circuits to protect high-voltage MOSFETs. Both controllers are AEC-Q100 Grade-1 compliant and can operate in ambient temperatures from -40°C to 125°C.
