Renesas Electronics launches a successful portfolio of Scalable Modular Systems (SoM) smart mobility architectures

     Renesas Electronics, a global semiconductor solutions provider, announced the launch of Scalable Modular Systems (SoM) Smart Mobility Architecture (SMARC) portfolio solutions. The program, which includes 10 Renesas IC products such as microprocessors (MPUs), power supplies and analog ics, accelerates the development of artificial intelligence (AI) IoT face/object detection, image processing and 4K video playback applications, including surveillance cameras, inspection equipment, and a range of industrial and building automation HMI and embedded vision systems.

     Renesas' scalable SoM boards comply with the 82mm x 80mm size specification specified in the SMARC 2.0 industry standard. The SMARC SoM board provides designers with three different scalable versions of Renesas 64-bit RZ/G2 microprocessors: the mid-range RZ/G2N dual-core Arm® Cortex-A57 MPU operating at 1.5 GHZ; The high-performance RZ/G2M MPU features a dual-core Arm Cortex-A57 and a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 (1.2GHz). The ultra-high performance RZ/G2H MPU features a quad-core Arm Cortex-A57 and a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53. All three MPUs (dual-core, up to eight-core) feature integrated 600MHz PowerVR 3D graphics and 4K UHD H.265 and H.264 codecs to meet different computing processing requirements.

     SoM board offers designers a choice of RZ/G2 MPU products with performance up to 35.6K DMIPS, 2GB to 4GB LPDDR4 RAM memory, and 32GB eMMC. Each RZ/G2 MPU is capable of running edge video analytics and AI frameworks. These MPUs feature an integrated AI software library, rich interfaces, internal and external memory data error checking and correction (ECC) protection, a Linux OS, and a Linux software package (VLP) tested, maintained and proven by Renesas. The solution also uses the Civil Infrastructure Platform (CIP) Ultra-Long Term Support (SLTS) Linux kernel and bundles a software development environment. In addition, the SMARC SoM board provides an optimized power supply and programmable timing tree to assist the RZ/G2 MPU in meeting various application needs.
