Renesas Electronics launches its new R-Car S4 SoC and PMIC based automotive gateway solution for next-generation automotive computers

     Renesas Electronics Group, a global supplier of semiconductor solutions, announced the launch of its new automotive Gateway solution based on the R-Car S4 System-on-chip (SoC) and power Management IC (PMIC) for next-generation automotive computers, communication gateways, domain servers, and application servers. With the development of E/E architecture to regions and regions, Renesas's new solutions meet the requirements of the automotive industry for high performance, high speed network, high network security and high functional security. This solution significantly improves development efficiency through software reusability and the new superior PMIC that works seamlessly with the R-Car S4.

Renesas, a leader in the automotive electronics market, has successfully addressed these challenges with its latest R-Car S4 solution. Oems around the world have also begun designing next-generation systems based on this solution."

     As one of the first products in Renesas's fourth generation R-Car product family, R-Car S4 contains multiple Arm Cortex A55 and Cortex R52 cores and integrates RH850 MCU CPU cores for control domain management for the first time. The R-Car S4 SoC offers a number of in-vehicle interfaces such as 16-way CAN FD, 16-way LIN, 8-way SENT, 1-way FlexRay, 4-way PCIe V4.0, and a high-bandwidth 3-way 2.5-Gbit Ethernet switch for a wealth of communication and connectivity options inside and outside the vehicle.

     The R-Car S4 solution allows designers to reuse software code developed for third-generation R-Car SoC and RH850 MCU applications with up to 88% reuse. The package also supports R-Car S4 applications, including various drivers for the real-time kernel and basic software such as Linux BSP and hypervisors. In addition, with the virtual platform built by the partner (VPF), the design cycle and cost can be reduced through early software development and evaluation.

     The new PMIC for R-Car supports an advanced power mode with very low operating power. The RAA271041 PMIC is compatible with 12V on-board power supply and supports a wide range of operations such as load drop and cold start pulses while providing first-stage regulation. The RAA271005 functions as a secure 11-channel PMIC and can be further stepped down to various power supply voltages required by the R-Car S4 and its peripherals such as the LPDDR4x memory. The RAA271041 and RAA271005 PMIC create a complete power supply solution from vehicle battery to system voltage.

     Renesas launched the evaluation board as a "success portfolio" that incorporates the R-Car S4 product, the RAA271041 and RAA271005 Pmics, and the Renesas Clock IC (Autoclock RC2121x). This tested solution will further reduce customer development risk and shorten development cycles.
