Renesas and LUPA introduce the EagleCAM module, an open front camera solution

     Renesas Electronics, a leading provider of advanced semiconductor solutions, and LUPA-Electronics GmbH, a provider of automotive safety solutions, today announced the EagleCAM module, an open front-facing camera solution. Features R-Car V3H and R-Car V3M system-on-chip (SoC) devices from Renesas Electronics. The all-in-one scalable camera platform addresses the latest Euro NCAP and C-NCAP requirements, such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance and traffic sign recognition. Jointly developed solutions enable Oems and Tier 1s to differentiate and extend their offerings by integrating their proprietary or third-party software to add new driving capabilities.

     Most smart camera turnkey solutions on the market today take a black box solution approach, which makes it difficult for Oems and Tier 1 manufacturers to respond to changing market demands and slows down development. With EagleCAM with R-Car SoC, Renesas and LUPA introduced an open turnkey solution that provides flexible, high-performance perception while reducing time to market and Bill of Materials (BOM) costs.

     Based on Renesas' proven R-Car SoC, the EagleCAM builds on low-end to high-end front-facing camera applications and extends surround vision, driver surveillance, and augmented reality. In addition to the R-Car SoC, the EagleCAM includes Renesas' Automotive Power Management IC (PMIC) to further reduce BOM costs. With the latest update to the R-Car V3H, the new turnkey solution benefits from improved CNN performance up to 3.7 TOPS, ASIL-C functionality in the real time domain, and camera support up to 8 megapixels. EagleCAM has a pre-proven hardware design that reduces the time required for mass production. Customers have access to best-in-class sensing stacks that offer short turnaround times, as well as stacks based on emerging technologies, enabling them to implement the stack that best suits their application needs.
