Renesas expands RX24T and RX24U MCUS to introduce products for motor control applications

     Fu Tianming, Vice President of the Industrial Solutions Business unit of Renesas Electronics Industrial Automation, said: "Driven by the Internet of Things technology, home appliances and industrial machinery have gained more functions through network connectivity and enhanced user interfaces; However, how to effectively use the limited interior space in the high temperature environment is becoming an important problem. "The latest additions to the RX24T and RX24U product families deliver the superior features and performance that customers have come to expect from RX series MCUS, while meeting heat resistance requirements to support safe and flexible industrial system designs."

     As the size of equipment continues to shrink, motor control applications face increasing challenges in terms of thermal effects. In industrial machinery and office equipment, as well as household appliances used for hot air and hot water treatment, circuit boards are increasingly being installed in high-temperature environments. The need for designs with larger internal volumes or heating areas for household appliances such as dishwashers or induction cookers is increasing, which limits the space available for boards. As a result, the design idea of the system is changing to a smaller area of the circuit board, which solves the space limitation, but also reduces the heat dissipation capacity of the circuit board, resulting in a high temperature of the circuit board itself.

     To meet these application needs, Renesas has added new high-temperature resistant products to its MCU family that can operate in high-temperature environments and on hot circuit boards, which will provide greater flexibility for designers of products in high-temperature operating environments, driving the development of more compact devices. Renesas combines a new MCU with a 24V motor control evaluation suite that enables developers to implement motor control applications in less time. The RX24T and RX24U CPU cards can also be used for related software development.

     The 32-bit RX24T and RX24U product families operate at A maximum frequency of 80MHz and are equipped with the peripheral functions required for motor control, such as timers, A/D converters, and analog circuits to effectively control two brushless DC motors from a single chip. Since the product family was launched two years ago, Renesas has sold 10 million RX24T and RX24U series MCUS, which are very popular in the market. With the addition of the G Series version, all Renesas 32-bit RX MCU products for motor control applications support operating environments from -40°C to +105°C, enhancing the scalability of the RX family and providing system manufacturers with a rich and scalable product line.
