Renesas has expanded its FemtoClock offering for high-performance communications and data centers

     Renesas Electronics announced the expansion of Renesas Clock solutions with a new "point of use" clock solution with jitter below 100fs for data centers, servers and network infrastructure. The new FemtoClock2 product family includes ultra-low jitter clock generators and jitter attenuators in a small 4mm x 4mm package that allows for economical and simple clock tree configuration for a new generation of high-speed interconnect designs.

     FemtoClock2 delivers ultra-low jitter performance of up to 64fs RMS, enabling customers to easily meet the requirements of a new switch or router design for a new generation of PAM4. The FemtoClock2 product family comes in a 4mm x 4mm package, less than a third of the size of comparable solutions on the market. This allows designers to place the clock source at the point of use (i.e. very close to the device receiving the clock signal) to simplify the PCB layout, reduce crosstalk, and obtain a cleaner signal. Excellent flexibility makes the range suitable for a wide range of applications. FemtoClock2 can be configured as a DCO, clock generator, or jitter attenuator, providing valuable design flexibility and reusability.

     Users can combine the new FemtoClock2 solution with Renesas small, single-output, high-performance oscillators, or the broader ClockMatrixTM family of clock solutions to meet the demanding clock product requirements of high-performance server and network infrastructure designs. FemtoClock2 can also be seamlessly integrated with the newly launched IEEE1588-based PTP Clock Manager, as well as with Renesas's extensive power supply and microcontroller portfolio for applications such as IEEE1588. FemtoClock2 acts as a downstream clock, capable of achieving 100fs low jitter on the pin without interrupting synchronization.
