Renesas' high-performance MCU family enhances noise resistance for consumer electronics and industrial applications

The Renesas RX660 is the first 5 V MCU in the RX600/700 high-end universal microcontroller family and was developed as a successor to the RX210. The RX660 has a product lineup ranging from 48 pins to 144 pins, 512 kB to 1 MB of memory, and is pin-compatible with the RX210, so existing boards can be used without circuit modifications.

     The RX660 of Renesas is the first 5V MCU in the RX600/700 high-end general-purpose microcontroller series, which was developed as a follow-up product of RX210. The RX660 has a product portfolio from 48 pin to 144 pin, 512 kB to 1 MB of memory, and is compatible with the RX210 pin, so it can use the existing board without modifying the circuit. In the MCU with a frequency of 100MHz or higher, this device guarantees the accuracy of the built-in oscillator to be ± 1% for the first time, so customers can safely remove the external oscillator.

 

     As customers expand their business worldwide, the system control of household appliances needs to develop models for each region, which increases the working time of developers and managers. To reduce costs, companies are accelerating the use of common development platforms. Therefore, due to the increase of redundant data, real-time operating system, OTA support, etc., the data capacity of software is also increasing, so the ROM and RAM capacity required by the microcontroller is also increasing year by year. The RX660 is equipped with 1 MB ROM and 128 KB RAM to fully cope with future data growth.

 

     This product is also the first one in RX series to use CAN FD (CAN with Flexible Data Rate) controller. CAN automobile network standard is widely used in industrial equipment and electric bicycle industry because of its performance and reliability. However, due to the improvement of the performance and complexity of the system control, the number of connected devices and the amount of communication data are increasing, and the demand for CAN-FD that can transmit data at a higher speed and larger capacity is also growing. Since it is backward compatible with current CAN communication, it can be updated with only minor changes to the current system
