Renesas introduces the RX23W module with Bluetooth capability

Renesas Electronics announced the launch of the RX23W module with full low-power Bluetooth 5 support for system control and wireless communication of Internet of Things (IoT) end devices. The module uses 32-bit RX23W, fully supports low-power Bluetooth communication, including antennas, oscillators and peripheral matching circuits, and is certified by multi-national radio laws, including Japan and the United States (note), and is certified by the Bluetooth SIG.

Customers can use the module directly without additional RF design, commissioning or RF expertise, reducing new product development time. The ultra-small 6.1mm x 9.5mm, 83-pin LGA package allows you to design more compact devices and reduce external components to reduce bill of material (BOM) costs and improve the development efficiency of iot end products such as appliances, medical and sports fitness equipment.

The RX23W MCU included in the new module supports full low-power Bluetooth 5 communication, including remote transmission and 2Mbps data throughput. Excellent communication characteristics with a reception sensitivity of -105dBm at 125Kbps. Based on the Renesas RXv2 CPU core, the RX23W delivers superior computing performance with a maximum clock rate of 54MHz and excellent energy efficiency, making it ideal for system control applications. The product also incorporates Renesas' unique security feature, TSIP (Trusted Secure IP), which provides strong protection against threats such as eavesdropping, tampering and viruses. In addition, the RX23W has a wealth of peripherals, including touch keys, USB, and CAN features that are integral to IoT devices.

Development environment

The new RX23W module uses the same software development environment as the RX MCU, allowing developers to develop both system control and communication control simultaneously. Smart Configurator helps developers generate code for peripheral functions and Bluetooth drivers using the GUI and configure pin Settings. QE for BLE helps developers generate programs for customizing Bluetooth profiles. The Bluetooth Test Tool suite provides a GUI that allows developers to perform initial wireless feature evaluation and Bluetooth functionality verification. These tools are applicable to all aspects of the development process, providing developers with comprehensive support from the initial stage to application product development, significantly improving development efficiency.

The RX23W module can be combined with Renesas analog and power products to develop comprehensive solutions for a wide range of applications. The multiple "Portfolio Successes" demonstrate the unique capabilities of the RX23W module and the breadth and depth of Renesas' product lineup. For example, the reference design of the medical patch can monitor body temperature, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate with the Bluetooth connectivity of the RX23W. Typical applications also include 48V EV solutions that connect to smartphones via RX23W to view vehicle battery status and historical routes.
