Rhodes & Schwartz unveils Analyzer for efficient ATC air navigation signal detection UAV

     Rhode and Schwartz unveil the R&SEVSD1000 VHF/UHF Navigation/Drone Analyzer on Airspace World 2023, March 8-10, 2023. The analyzer enables accurate and efficient UAV-based platform-based detection of ground navigation and communication systems with the accuracy and repeatability of measurements required by our customers.

     Civil aviation needs accurate and reliable navigation systems to optimize air traffic control (ATC), ensure essential public safety, and reduce aircraft risks, delays, and costs. Land air navigation systems such as landing systems or in-transit navigation systems require unique test and measurement capabilities.

     R&S EVSD1000 VHF/UHF Navigation/UAV Analyzer is a signal level and modulation analyzer for medium sized UAVS. It is a measuring instrument that integrates the landing system (ILS), the ground-based Enhancement System (GBAS), and the VHF Global Area (VOR) ground station in one framework. Its mechanical and electrical design is optimized for real-time measurements of UAV-based ground navigation systems, measuring up to 100 sets of data per second.

     The analyzer provides high-precision signal analysis in the frequency range of 70MHz to 410MHz, a key requirement for UAV-based ground navigation signal measurement systems. This also includes the required repeatability of measurements to ensure that the results measured by drones can be compared with in-flight and ground inspections in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

     The analyzer is an ideal choice for conducting UAV-based ground station tests around airports. The weight of the instrument is 1.5kg, allowing the use of a medium drone to measure the ILS/VOR system in accordance with International Civil Aviation Organization standards.

     User benefits include: reduced runway clogging time and significantly reduced cost compared to traditional methods (manual measurement, mast measurement), while providing the necessary measurement repeatability, measurement accuracy and GNSS time and position markers. While the drone is in flight, measurements are transmitted to a computer on the ground via a data link, while the analyzer can cache them internally to ensure that measurements are not lost in the event of a data link loss. This design ensures no gap measurement and fast report generation.
