Rohm establishes strategic partnership with TSMC in the field of gallium nitride power devices for vehicles

     ROHM, a world-renowned Semiconductor manufacturer, announced a strategic partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) for the development and mass production of gallium nitride power devices for vehicles.

     Through this partnership, the two companies will aim to combine Rohm's gallium nitride device development technology with TSMC's industry-leading GaN-on-Silicon process technology to meet the growing market demand for power components with high voltage resistance and high frequency characteristics.

     Gallium nitride power devices are currently used primarily in consumer electronics and industrial equipment applications, such as AC adapters and server power supplies. As a leader in sustainability and green manufacturing, TSMC is bullish on the environmental benefits of future gallium nitride power devices in in-vehicle applications such as on-board chargers and inverters for electric vehicles (EVs), and is strengthening its own gallium nitride technology capabilities.

     This partnership builds on Rohm's history of collaboration with TSMC in the field of gallium nitride power devices. In In 2023, Rohm introduced new products belonging to the Rohm EcoGaN™ family using TSMC's 650V pressure-resistant gallium nitride HEMT process, which are now used in applications including Delta Electronics, Inc. Innergie's 45W AC adapter "C4 Duo" is used in many consumer electronics and industrial applications.
