Rolling Wireless, the world's leading provider of cellular network access devices (NADs) to the automotive industry, announced that its RN934A NAD has been approved by the Global Certification Forum (GCF), becoming the first product on the market to receive certification for 5G Release 16 automotive modules.
The RN934A is designed for the European market and is the leading product in Rolling Wireless 'RN93xx family. GCF certification certifies that the module complies with international standards for mobile technology and guarantees the interoperability of the device with the network.
"Receiving the first GCF certification for a 5G Release 16 automotive product is a testament to the skill and dedication of our R&D and certification teams," said Wei Xu, Senior Vice President of Rolling Wireless.
"This important milestone, achieved ahead of schedule, also provides confidence to Tier 1 suppliers and vehicle manufacturers who have already designed the RN93xx module into their next generation in-vehicle information control units," he added.
In addition to GCF certification, Rolling Wireless has received equipment authorization from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for two variants of the RN93xx family, the RN932A and RN932N. The FCC approval allows the modules to be sold and operated in the United States.
In addition, the RN937N has been certified to comply with the Japan Radio Act (JRF) and the Japan Telecommunications Business Act (JPA), which are mandatory requirements to be licensed for sale in the Japanese market.
Based on the Qualcomm SA522M chipset, Rolling Wireless 'RN93xx series modules bring a number of enhancements to automotive applications. The RN93xx modules are more than just 5G modems, they also provide a flexible, Linux-based NAD software platform. Customers can build their onboard information control units on top of off-the-shelf Rolling Wireless core services, Qualcomm's Onboard Information Control Unit Application Framework (TelAF), or a custom application framework. The software platform also offers a wide range of optional software components designed to address the common use of connected vehicles and in-vehicle information control units.
