     Commenting on the SWIM (Shallow Water Immersion) series, Vincent Mansour, SOURIAU's Marine product Manager, said: "If you can meet the requirements of deeper water, then of course you can handle shallow water easily. This is not always true. Even if the connector is highly watertight, it does not mean that it can be so in shallow water. The watertight design must take into account the pressure applied to the joints and therefore the depth of immersion."

 

     When using SWIM, the connector plug is screwed into the jack to lock the two components together, and the two O-rings at the interface keep the connection watertight even at low pressure. SWIM connectors are made of thermoplastic material, lightweight and waterproof. They are resistant to corrosion, cathode stripping, and ultraviolet light, which makes them particularly suitable for prolonged immersion in Marine environments. With threaded inserts and numbered pins, users can easily insert plugs into jacks, regardless of the number of pins.

 

     Manufacturers of shallow-water submersible devices must face problems with sealing, contact corrosion, and connector installation. SOURIAU's SWIM half harness and harness provide a reliable solution at a competitive cost. In the catalog, half harnesses are available in 2 housing sizes and 13 contact layouts, ranging in length from 1 to 10 meters, and the coated cable terminations can be straight or at 90° angles.

 

     SOURIAU also offers specific wiring harnesses upon request: Vincent Mansour says, "For some customers who want to connect two pieces of equipment directly without an intermediate connector, we need to produce complete wiring harnesses with connectors at both ends. In this case, the customer can choose the cable and connector required, as well as the length and type of straight or curved coated cable termination."

 

     The design and manufacturing quality of SOURIAU's SWIM harness ensures secure connections in applications up to 300 metres deep. They fit the bill perfectly for surface drones. These drones are used for research missions on Marine mammals, oil exploration or military-type applications, such as maritime surveillance. SWIM harness also meets the needs of meteorological ocean buoys, OCROVs (underwater observation-class remotely operated vehicles), and various Marine equipment that integrates sensors (hydrophones, temperature sensors, salinity sensors, etc.) and electronics.

 

     SWIM harness provides the submersible system with reliability, ease of maintenance, and enhanced modularity of its construction.
