ST adds new capabilities to the STM32Cube ecosystem to improve software development efficiency

The STM32Cube Software Development ecosystem releases software updates that make it easier for users to filter software samples, collect and use development tools, and customize, use, and share STM32Cube extension packages.

These updates bring new enhancements to the MCU Configuration and Project Setup tool (STM32CubeMX version 6.0) and the STM32CubeIDE v1.4 multi-OS C/C++ development platform. Both tools now have direct access to the latest STM32Cube MCU packages and extensions, which contain the software needed to run STM32 microcontrollers and peripherals, as well as external components such as sensors or communication interfaces. Moreover, users can now start a project directly from any of a large number of software samples and easily view the software samples through two tools at the same time.

The STM32Cube MCU package is a specific software package for specific microcontrollers and product families to facilitate developers to use microcontroller features and peripherals, including peripheral drivers, middleware, routines, and board level support packages (BSPS). The STM32Cube Extension Pack is software developed by ST or third parties that gives developers the flexibility to add new features such as board-level support packages or middleware to the package, while protecting the integrity of the STM32Cube ecosystem.

The update adds a powerful utility called STM32PackCreator in STM32CubeMX 6.0, which allows users to create and share their own STM32Cube extensions. STM32PackCreator guides users through the development of extension packages and helps users ensure that all newly developed extension packages can be opened and configured in the STM32CubeMX and STM32CubeIDE tools.

Now, STM32CubeMX version 6.0 also helps users find all the development tools available in the STM32Cube ecosystem, as well as other design tools from ST, such as the STM32 microcontroller and MEMS sensor algorithm design tool AlgoBuilder for graphical interfaces. In addition, the STM32CubeMX 6.0 allows users to launch the STM32PackCreator and eDesignSuite software to facilitate the design of related system functions, including signal conditioning circuits, power conversion and RF circuits.
