
STMicroelectronics cooperated with Fingerprint Cards AB (Fingerprints), the world's leading biometric technology company, to develop advanced biometric system-on-card solution (BSoC) based on fingerprint recognition technology. In response to market demands to improve the security and convenience of non-receiving payment cards.
The BSoC integrated system integrates the latest generation of secure payment technologies from ST based on the ST31/STPay chipset and the STM32 universal microcontroller, as well as the next generation of T-shaped sensor modules from Fingerprints to provide a complete battery-free secure payment solution for the banking market.
Laurent Degauque, Market Director of Secure Microcontrollers at ST, said: "Biometric authentication technology offers the advantages of being cost-effective and user-friendly, dramatically increasing the level of security and user convenience of banking transactions, allowing banks to raise or remove the cap on the value of contactless payment transactions. In this collaboration, Fingerprint Cards offers their valuable R&D experience and market-proven expertise in contactless payment solutions for battery-free and space-constrained devices. Their products combine powerful processing power with low energy consumption and are the perfect complement to our STPay payment card solution."
Contactless payment cards will be the primary target application of this joint development agreement, and the parties are also interested in developing other markets, such as ID cards, health cards, access cards and transportation cards.
