STMicroelectronics has partnered with Flextronics to develop a mobile product charger platform based on ST's multi-mode power management controller. The new platform uses the industry's most efficient power management architecture to achieve two design goals: zero no-load power consumption and excellent dynamic load regulation. Important breakthroughs have been made in the application of charging technology.
In 2014, more than 2.4 billion portable devices, mobile phones, tablets and desktops were estimated to be sold, and if the chargers were not unplugged after charging, the chargers left in the sockets could waste 300 MW of electricity , which would waste more than 2.5 billion kWh of electricity per year. The solution developed in collaboration between ST and Flextronics could completely solve this power waste problem, saving at least 200 million gallons of oil per year.
The charging platform is based on the STCH01 controller and has a high degree of functional integration, making it an ideal choice for the development of micro high power density smart phone and tablet power adapters. St Power management controllers use an innovative architecture that minimizes converter sizes and reduces the need for peripheral components, thereby reducing manufacturing costs for equipment manufacturers.
