ST introduced the industry's first high symbol rate satellite demodulator to enable faster, more economical broadband services

STMicroelectronics announces the world's first 500Mbaud High Symbol-Rate (HSR) satellite demodulator chip. When combined with transponders to transmit data using high-frequency Ka-band communications satellites, the STiD135 can significantly increase the bandwidth usage and data throughput of satellite Internet services.

     STMicroelectronics announces the world's first 500Mbaud High Symbol-Rate (HSR) satellite demodulator chip. When combined with transponders to transmit data using high-frequency Ka-band communications satellites, the STiD135 can significantly increase the bandwidth usage and data throughput of satellite Internet services.

 

     The new products comply with DVB-S2, DVB-S2X and DVB-S2 Annex-M and are part of the French Space Agency (CNES)THD-SAT programme. The THD-SAT program is designed to facilitate the development of high-speed broadband Internet based on High Throughput satellites (HTS) to enable faster and more economical broadband services. Using satellite signals that can be received around the world, build a satellite Internet with performance comparable to fiber, ADSL and 4G networks.

 

     Eric Benoit, Head of Gateway Platform product Line at ST's Consumer Electronics Division, said: "National and regional research bodies such as the EU Digital Agenda [3] agree that the Digital Divide is an important social issue that needs to be addressed. The new satellite modulator chip, the result of our collaboration with the French Space Agency, has an effective data throughput of up to 600 megabits per second (megabits per second) in the Ka band, representing a valuable advance in existing technology while achieving bandwidth efficiency comparable to that of the Ku band. These two strengths are driving us towards our goal of Broadband for All."

 

     Jean-Philippe Taisant, senior project manager for Telecommunications at the French Space Agency, said: "The goal of our THD-SAT program is to reduce bandwidth costs to one-tenth, use high-throughput Ka-frequency satellites to quickly deliver Internet services with downlink/uplink speeds of 100/10 Mbps, Achieve an Internet experience comparable To FTTH (Fiber To The Home) in non-populated areas. "St's STiD135 demodulator chip is a key technology for developing economical satellite broadband modems."
